Import events from another calendar

Learn how to import events from your iPhone, Android device, or an .ics file into ILJI.

8 min read

You can make a one-time copy of events from another calendar in My Calendar in ILJI. If the events appear in the Calendar app on your iPhone or in the calendar app on your Android device, import them from your device calendars. If they do not, you can use an .ics file when the other service provides one.

Which import method should I use?

  • The events appear in the Calendar app on your iPhone: Choose Import from device calendars. This can include iCloud, Google, Exchange, and other accounts connected to iOS Calendar.
  • The events appear in the calendar app on your Android device: Choose Import from device calendars. Calendars synced through Google, Samsung, Exchange, and other device accounts may appear.
  • The events do not appear in your device calendar: If the service can export an .ics file, choose Import from a file (.ics).
  • Installing a calendar app does not automatically make its events available to ILJI. The app must share them with the calendar system on your device, or provide an .ics file.

Start an import in ILJI

  1. 01

    Open More

Tap More at the bottom of the app, then select Import events in the Settings section.

  2. 02

    Choose the date range

Keep All dates, or select Custom range and choose a start and end date. A custom range can cover up to about three years at a time. If you have a large calendar, importing smaller ranges is usually easier.

  3. 03

    Choose where to import from

Use Import from device calendars for events visible on your device, or Import from a file (.ics) for a file you saved or downloaded.

Import from an iPhone

  1. 01

    Check the Calendar app first

Make sure the events you want are visible in the Calendar app on your iPhone. To import Google Calendar events, that Google account must be connected to iOS Calendar.

  2. 02

    Tap Import from device calendars

Allow calendar read access when ILJI asks. ILJI uses this access to find events you can import and does not change the originals.

  3. 03

    Select one or more calendars

Choose calendars under Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or another group, then tap Next.

  4. 04

    Review and import

After ILJI finishes checking events, review the total and the regular and recurring event counts, then tap Import.

Import from an Android device

  1. 01

    Check your device calendar first

Make sure the events are visible in the calendar app you use. On a Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, Motorola, AQUOS, Xperia, or another Android device, calendar sync must be enabled for the Google, Samsung, Exchange, or other device account you use.

  2. 02

    Tap Import from device calendars

Allow calendar access. ILJI groups the available calendars under Google, Samsung, and Other calendars when those groups are present on your device.

  3. 03

    Select calendars and tap Next

Choose at least one calendar. When the check is complete, review the total and the regular and recurring event counts.

  4. 04

    Tap Import

Check the number of events and any exclusion notice, then start the import.

Import from an .ics file

A service that does not connect to your device calendar may still let you export an .ics file. Save the exported or attached file in Files on iPhone, or Files or Downloads on Android, before opening ILJI.

  1. 01

    Choose the date range

On the Import events screen, select All dates or Custom range.

  2. 02

Tap Import from a file (.ics)

When the system file picker opens, select the .ics file you saved. This method does not require access to your device calendars.

  3. 03

    Review the events

After ILJI checks the file, review the total and the regular and recurring event counts.

  4. 04

    Tap Import

Check whether any unsupported events will be excluded, then start the import.

Prepare a file from another calendar service

If Google Calendar, NAVER Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, or another service can export an .ics file, you can use Import from a file (.ics) in ILJI. Menu names and export options can vary by service and account type.

  1. 01

    Check for an export option

Open the calendar service on the web or a computer and look for Export, Backup, or Save Calendar. If you can choose a file format, select iCalendar or .ics.

  2. 02

Save the file on your phone

Save the exported .ics file in Files on iPhone, or Files or Downloads on Android. In ILJI, tap Import from a file (.ics), then select the file.

What is copied into ILJI?

  • Every imported event is saved as a personal schedule in My Calendar. It is not automatically converted to a work or team schedule.
  • ILJI copies the title, date and time, all-day setting, location, notes, and supported recurrence patterns.
  • A supported recurring event imported with All dates remains a recurring schedule. With Custom range, each occurrence in the selected range is saved as a separate personal schedule.
  • A multi-day all-day event is saved as a separate all-day schedule for each date in its range.
  • An event from a shared calendar becomes your own personal copy. Members and sharing permissions are not copied.
  • Attendees and responses, attachments, original reminders, colors, categories, and video meeting details are not imported.
  • Unsupported or ambiguous recurrence patterns may be excluded. The review step tells you when some events will be left out.
  • After import, you can edit, complete, cancel, or delete these schedules just like personal schedules you created in ILJI.

What happens if I import the same events again?

ILJI checks whether an event was already imported and avoids creating another copy. The skipped count on the completion screen shows events that were already present.

If an import does not work as expected

  • A calendar is missing: Check that its events appear in Calendar on iPhone or the calendar app on your Android device. Enable account and calendar sync, then tap Check again.
  • Calendar access was denied: Allow ILJI calendar access in device settings, or import an .ics file instead.
  • There are too many events: Choose Custom range and import smaller date ranges. Events in overlapping ranges will not be duplicated.
  • Fewer events appear than expected: Events outside the selected range, unsupported recurrence patterns, or events not provided by the device calendar may be excluded.
  • The import stopped partway through: Events already processed remain in ILJI. Tap Retry to continue the saved import.
  • Can I discard a saved import?: Discarding removes only the information needed to retry. Events already imported remain in My Calendar.
