Calculate amounts and percentages with formulas
Use entered values such as unit price, quantity, and discount rate to calculate results automatically.
Add a Formula field to a form instead of opening a calculator each time. For example, enter a unit price and quantity to calculate a total. Each calculation uses fields within the same schedule.
Create a total from unit price × quantity
- 01
Create the input fields
Go to More > Forms and create or edit a form. Add two Integer fields named Unit price and Quantity. Set units if needed. Use Decimal fields when fractional values are needed.
- 02
Add a Formula field
Choose Formula when adding a field and name it Total. Set an optional result unit, or leave it empty.
- 03
Build the expression
Use Insert field to select Unit price, tap × on the keypad, and insert Quantity. Check that the expression reads Unit price × Quantity. Use the provided picker and keypad to enter the expression.
- 04
Save the field and form
Add the Formula field, then save the form. Auto-calculate in the editor means the referenced values will be supplied when you fill in a schedule.
- 05
Enter values in a schedule
Create a Work schedule and select the saved form. Enter 50 in Unit price and 2 in Quantity to see a total of 100. Change the inputs to change the result; the result itself is not an editable input.
What can you calculate?
- Arithmetic: Unit price × Quantity, Revenue − Cost, or Total ÷ People
- Parentheses: Group a part to calculate first, such as (Materials + Labor) × Quantity
- Powers: Use ^ for squares or compound growth across several periods
- Linked formulas: Calculate Profit from Total − Cost, then calculate Margin from Profit ÷ Total
Enter percentages as percentages
When an Integer or Decimal field has % as its unit, enter 10 for 10%. ILJI uses 0.1 in the calculation. For Price × (1 − Discount), entering a price of 100 and a discount of 10 gives a discounted price of 90.
For a ratio such as Profit ÷ Total, set the result unit to %. A calculated value of 0.2 is displayed as 20%, so you do not need to multiply by 100 just to display the percentage. Other units are display labels; ILJI does not convert between currencies or measurement units.
If a result is missing
- Auto means a referenced input is still missing. Fill in the fields used by the formula. A blank value is different from 0.
- Finish an incomplete expression and check its parentheses. Review the error message if a calculation is impossible, such as division by zero.
- You can reference other Formula fields, but a formula cannot reference itself or form a circular chain with other formulas.
Review results and edit formulas
Results appear while entering a schedule, in its details, and in document previews and PDFs. Renaming or reordering a referenced field keeps the connection. Before deleting a referenced field, update the formulas that use it.
